The Center & The Jake

In the spirit of pursuing peace through strength, the Center strives to ensure that transformational technology is brought to bear quickly on our men and women in uniform. In that regard, it has enlisted its Military Committee and others to call attention to and galvanize support for programs such as the Jake.

Created by engineer Russell Strong, the Jake can best be described as a “segway on steroids”
– an agile, rapid-mobility ehicle, powered by a hybridelectric engine and capable of zero-radius turns, making it deal for use by soldiers engaged in distributed or urban warfare against today’s adversaries.

The Jake can accommodate one to two soldiers (and possibly others on attached running
boards) or one soldier with up to ,000 pounds of equipment, and can also be manned remotely for bomb disposal nd other purposes. The Center has facilitated several briefings on the Jake to key military officials, civilian acquisition personnel, and other quarters of the national security
community. Throughout the course of 2008, the Center will continue to promote the Jake and other technologies esigned to give the American warfighter a decisive advantage in the conflicts of
today and tomorrow.
