President Obama has lately spoken eloquently about protecting our freedom of speech.

Last week, Mr. Obama rightly declared, “If somebody is able to intimidate us out of releasing a satirical movie…imagine if producers and distributors and others start engaging in self-censorship because they don’t want to offend the sensibilities of somebody whose sensibilities probably need to be offended.”

Yet, that’s precisely the point some of us made two years ago. Back then, the issue wasn’t a comedic film about North Korea made by Sony Pictures. It was a satirical video the President insisted precipitated the murderous jihadist attack in Benghazi. And Mr. Obama actually suggested that its American filmmaker “slander[ed] the prophet of Islam.”

Freedom of speech is an unalienable right from our Creator. Neither foreign powers, our president nor self-censorship should be allowed to suppress it.
