The death of Wahhabi Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah is a tectonic shift that comes at a moment when the Middle East was already being rocked by serious tremors.

A pro-Western, if largely ineffectual, government in neighboring Yemen has fallen to Iranian-backed insurgents. Their patron across the Persian Gulf is pressing forward with its nuclear weapons program, something Team Obama’s negotiators are now acknowledging they’re only trying to slow, not prevent.

The Islamic State is a threat to both Saudi Arabia and another of its neighbors, Jordan. Ditto al Qaeda’s regional franchises.

Oil prices now being driven down by the Saudis and funding keeping the Egyptian government afloat are just some of the policies that may change under new management in Riyadh.

We need a sound strategy to contend with such developments. Check ours out at Secure Freedom.org.
