Yesterday in Garland, Texas, American freedom fighter Pamela Geller and Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders led a celebration and exercise of our most foundational liberty – freedom of expression – in response to an event held in the same venue four months ago.

On that occasion, Islamists in this country justified murders of French cartoonists who they claimed in accordance with their supremacist doctrine of shariah, deserved to be killed for “giving offense” to Muslims by drawing images of the prophet Mohammed.

Authorities have yet to confirm that two men who tried to kill a security guard and presumably others at yesterday’s “Draw Mohammed” contest were motivated by the same belief. It seems a safe bet they were. Thankfully, they died instead, and so must the idea that our freedom to offend can legitimately be restricted.
