The flame of American freedom is burning a little less brightly at the moment, dimmed by the loss of one of our nation’s most extraordinary patriots.

Dr. John ‘Jack’ Templeton was a pediatric surgeon by training, a Renaissance man by dint of his extraordinary, free-range intellect and a leading philanthropist by accident of lineage and extraordinary personal generosity. He passed away last weekend after a long bout with cancer.

I can honestly say I have never met anyone quite like Jack Templeton. He combined the rarest of attributes – a truly brilliant mind, a visionary clarity about our world, a passionate love of our country and a commitment to do whatever he could to preserve our liberties. And, as it happened, he could, and did, do quite a lot.

Thank you, Jack Templeton.
