North Korea observed the fiftieth SuperBowl by orbiting a satellite over the stadium shortly after the last quarter ended. The ability of a bankrupt totalitarian regime to achieve such a feat – even briefly – would be something of a marvel if it were not so ominous.

Two prominent experts – former Clinton Director of Central Intelligence James Woolsey and CIA veteran Dr. Peter Vincent Pry – have warned that such satellites could be used by the North Koreans to deliver a catastrophic attack against this country’s electric grid. By detonating a nuclear weapon at the altitude of a satellite in low earth orbit, an attacker could blanket most of the United States with devastating electromagnetic pulses.

It turns out the Russians gave Pyongyang a design for a super EMP weapon. Fortunately, it wasn’t used Sunday night. We must protect our grid against future attacks.
