At the elegant 21 Club in New York City and in the company of a capacity crowd of fellow journalists, leading entrepreneurs and security policy practitioners and aficionados, the Center for Security Policy bestowed upon CNN’s Lou Dobbs its 2006 ‘Mightier Pen’ Award in recognition of the enormous contribution he has made to the Nation’s security throughout his career.

The Center launched the ‘Mightier Pen’ Award in 2001, to acknowledge members of the Fourth Estate who have, through their reporting and commentary, contributed materially to the public’s appreciation of the need for robust U.S. national security policies as an indispensable ingredient in promoting international peace.  Previous recipients have been Claudia Rosett, William F. Buckley, Jr., A.M. Rosenthal, Charles Krauthammer and Mark Helprin.

The awards luncheon was hosted by the Center’s Board of Regents and began with welcoming remarks from Center New York Director Amanda Bowman.  The event was preceded by a moving benediction by Rabbi Arthur Schneier of the Park East Synagogue.  The Rabbi’s blessing was particularly noteworthy, as CSP President Frank J. Gaffney, Jr. observed, since it was delivered by a Holocaust survivor even as Islamofascist Iran was concluding a conference for those who deny that earlier act of genocide amidst preparations in Tehran to pick up where Hitler left off.

Mr. Gaffney introduced the guest of honor – the first member of the television medium to receive the award – explaining that it was truly fitting to recognize Mr. Dobbs with this distinction due to the skill and tenacity with which he brings to the attention of the American people matters of great importance to the Nation’s security.  In a trenchant acceptance speech, Mr. Dobbs expressed a sober appreciation of the numerous dangers we are facing – in particular those from Islamofascist and Communist Chinese quarters – and the need for redoubled vigilance and far more robust policies.

The event concluded with brief remarks by Board of Regents Chairman E. Miles Prentice .  He expressed gratitude to Mr. Dobbs for his generous words of appreciation for the work of the Center and for his efforts to inform and educate our countrymen about the issues that will shape the future course of the War for the Free World.

The Center for Security Policy heartily congratulates Lou Dobbs on the occasion of his Mightier Pen award and extends its thanks as well to those in his vast audience who share his commitment to American sovereignty, national security and economic strength – and the policies needed to promote and safeguard them.
