Obama’s Surrender Speech

In a speech at the National Defense University yesterday, President Obama encouraged and emboldened America’s enemies.

He reiterated his misleading assertion that “core al Qaeda is on the path to defeat.”  He announced that he would sharply restrict further use of drones, return home Yemenis detained at Guantanamo Bay and pledged anew to close that vital prison facility.

Most troubling, Mr. Obama signaled that he is willing, as with Iraq and Afghanistan, to simply declare the war against jihadists who seek our destruction to be “over.” Absent their defeat, such an ending entails our giving up. And our enemies are hardwired to respond to that prospect by redoubling their jihad.

Mr. Obama’s speech signals our surrender and submission.  If not repudiated, it will bring us more war, not an end to it.
