Former Director of Central Intelligence James Woolsey reported this week that we recently, narrowly dodged a kind of storm that could have inflicted unprecedented damage on our country and its people.

It turns out that the earth missed by about a week being at a place in its orbit that was hit by heavy space weather – the kind the sun generates when, as present, it’s in a period of intense flaring known as a solar maximum.

That would have bathed our planet with electromagnetic pulse or EMP. Under present circumstances, this storm would be catastrophic, likely destroying our nation’s electric grid – and everything that depends on it, which is nearly everything.
