Rep. Lamar Smith cautions against believing all of Pres. Obama’s immigration claims

On Tuesday’s Secure Freedom Radio, Congressman Lamar Smith urged a healthy skepticism for President Obama’s claims to have bolstered US border security.

“It’s another example where you can’t quite trust the President on what he says. The border is not more secure than it’s ever been. Or, I should say, it’s as insecure as it’s ever been.”

Smith, the chair of the House’s Science, Space, and Technology Committee, argued strongly against Republicans agreeing to some sort of immigration reform before the midterm elections.

“We can’t trust the President of the United States to enforce immigration laws,” said Smith. “He hasn’t been doing so for the last four years, what makes us suddenly think he will do so in the future if immigration and border security were a part of another immigration bill?”

Furthermore, the Congressman argued, “the Administration is continually either trying to undermine immigration laws, ignore immigration laws, and in some cases come up with their own immigration laws through executive order, all of which I think is borderline unconstitutional.”

Smith enunciated that he believes the US should focus on securing its borders, and that amnesty to illegal immigrants is not acceptable.

“What an insult to the millions of people who are playing by the rules, waiting their turn in line as generations have done before. Why should they wait in line another second if United States policy is to reward people in the country who are here illegally?”
