When the new Republican-led Congress takes office in a couple of days, one of its first orders of business is expected to be adopting new sanctions on Iran.

President Obama has been relaxing and, as a practical matter, dismantling them for nearly a year as part of his bid to secure a nuclear deal with Tehran. He will vehemently oppose congressional efforts to restore them.

The stakes in this policy dispute have just become vastly higher. We learned today that Mr. Obama told National Public Radio before Christmas that, if he gets that deal with the mullahs, he might normalize relations with Iran – like he recently did with Cuba.

Congress better scotch this idea before Team Obama legitimizes, props up and makes more dangerous Iran or any other unreconstructed enemies of this country.
