Whose Names Will Be on Iran’s Bomb?

In courageously announcing his opposition to the Obamabomb deal with Iran, New Jersey’s Democratic Senator Bob Menendez invoked a powerful image to explain why. He said he wanted to ensure that Iran’s bomb “will not have my name on it.”

Tragically, a small, partisan minority in the Congress are evidently willing to have their names on Iran’s bomb.

But they will only succeed in giving Obama’s dangerously deficient agreement the pretense of congressional approval if Congress’ two top Republicans go along.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner have an option that would enable the normal process to apply – namely to require that an actual majority, in fact a supermajority in the Senate – will be required instead.

If they fail to exercise that option, Sen. McConnell and Speaker Boehner’s names will be on Iran’s bomb.
