Yesterday, Donald Trump referred to a recent poll of American Muslims conducted for the Center for Security Policy. He cited its findings that 25 percent of those polled thought violent jihad here could be justified and 51 percent of respondents wanted shariah law to apply here to support his argument that Muslim immigration to this country should be blocked. Much criticism ensued.

But, is anyone seriously prepared to argue that we should knowingly admit more jihadists? If not, it follows that – unless and until we can be sure that aliens proposed for admission, particularly from nations with a tradition of Islamic supremacism, aren’t jihadists – suspending their further immigration is just prudent.

It’s in the interest of non-shariah-adherent Muslims – and the rest of us – to pause in augmenting the numbers of actual and potential jihadists who are already here.
