Save Gitmo – and Us

Now we know why Guantanamo Bay must be closed: Because President Obama is determined to close it. Period.

That was the take-away from testimony yesterday on Capitol Hill by State and Defense Department witnesses responsible for explaining and defending the “strategy” for closing the facility and bringing to the United States – against the law, as it happens – those detainees Mr. Obama can’t simply send back to the fight via some foreign country.

Members of Congress made equally clear that they want no part of this project. They don’t want these committed, dangerous jihadists in our communities, already feeling vulnerable following attacks in San Bernardino and Brussels. They don’t want these detainees, once here, getting rights, lawyers and access to – and possibly freed by — our courts, many of them with benches now populated with Obama-appointed leftist judges.
