The effort to destroy President Trump’s presidency has a new target: Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The Washington Post breathlessly reports he had two “meetings” with the Russian ambassador while he worked on the Trump campaign that he failed to disclose during his confirmation hearings.

Those seeking to parlay this revelation into the Attorney General’s neutralization, if not actually his resignation, are ignoring an inconvenient fact: His interactions with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were not campaign-related. They occurred in the course of the day job of a then-United States Senator. One involved an event with the Russian and other foreign diplomats, the other in his Senate office in connection with his duties as a member of the Armed Services Committee.

Jeff Sessions was a harsh critic of Vladimir Putin’s Russia in the Senate. Thank God he’s now America’s Attorney General.
