Citing unnamed present and former U.S. intelligence officials, the Washington Post claimed Monday that President Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian emissaries in an Oval Office meeting last week. The article raises several concerns:

First, if true, it would, unfortunately, be but the latest in a series of instances in which officials of both parties put at risk “sources and methods” of collecting sensitive intelligence and/or relationships with foreign services that share such information with us. Interestingly, previous episodes have generally received less critical scrutiny.

Second, this leak underscores the fact that Mr. Trump has subordinates, among them holdovers from the previous administration, who seem deeply hostile to this president.

Third, the President’s National Security Advisor, General H.R. McMaster, and his deputy, Dina Powell, insist that the reported incident didn’t happen. Someone is lying. We need to know who.
