Hooray for Donald Trump! Unlike every one of his predecessors since 1995, he actually did what he promised to do with respect to moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to the Jewish State’s actual capital, Jerusalem.

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that his directive envisions a government business-as-usual pace to get this done which is extremely ill-advised.  Taking years to set up a new U.S. embassy on the hotly contested real estate of Jerusalem invites subterfuges by our State Department and/or violence on the part of the Palestinians, and perhaps other Sharia-supremacists.

So, the President must simply direct that the existing U.S. consulate in Jerusalem become the interim embassy immediately.  By effecting this transformation overnight, he could steal a march on his adversaries, at home and abroad – and minimize incentives for their sabotage.
