Yesterday, the U.S. Senate narrowly approved one of its most principled alumni to become our next Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.  Indeed, it was his principles concerning traditional marriage and the supremacy of the U.S. constitution over foreign laws that violate it that nearly cost Sam Brownback his confirmation.

Every Senate Democrat voted against Amb. Brownback. That’s rather stunning given that a number of them just figured out that their support for shutting down the government to secure an amnesty for illegal aliens put their reelections at risk.  My guess is that they’ll shortly realize that voting against a formidable champion for religious liberty may well do the same.

Either way, Sam Brownback deserves the support of every American as he works to halt the persecution of Christians and others subjected because of their religion to rape, torture, enslavement and genocide.
