‘Committee on the Present Danger: China’ Threat Briefing to Examine Recent Developments and Emerging Dangers

Former Senior Officials, Other Experts Will Address Hong Kong, Taiwan, Huawei, Drugs, Capital Markets and ‘Engagement’

WASHINGTON—On Thursday, July 18, the “Committee on the Present Danger: China” (CPDC) provided its seventh Threat Briefing to consider events and policy choices that are currently shaping U.S. relations with China and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that misrules it and menaces us.

The program provided insights into: the case for rejecting recent criticisms by a group of “Engagers” concerning President Donald Trump’s policies towards the PRC; why the United States works to deter Chinese attacks on Hong Kong and how it can do so; ways in which we can assist Taiwan in preserving its freedom and sovereignty; the inadvisability of continuing sales of American technologies and equipment to Huawei; the risks associated with our dangerous dependency on Chinese antibiotics and other medicines; the CCP’s ominous exploitation of access to U.S. and Western capital markets to underwrite the present—and growing—danger it poses; and the nature and implications of Communist China’s penetration of Europe.

Speakers included Kyle Bass (by video) on deterring a CCP reprise of Tiananmen Square in Hong Kong; Roger Robinson on the latest revelations about how the CCP’s threats to America and the world are being financed; John Mills on enabling Taiwan to withstand Beijing’s intensifying aggression against it; Rosemary Gibson on addressing our perilous dependence on Chinese-manufactured drugs; Rob Spalding (invited, by video) on preventing the CCP/d.b.a. Huawei’s digital imperialism; Jim Fanell (by video) on understanding and addressing the CCP/PLA’s inroads into Europe; Anders Corr (by video) on assessing five strategies for defeating the CCP; and Frank Gaffney on rebutting the “Engagers.” (Invitations have also been extended to senior legislators. If any can join us, updates will be provided.)

The CPDC’s mission statement:

The mission of the “Committee on the Present Danger: China” is to help defend America through public education and advocacy against the full array of conventional and non-conventional dangers posed by the People’s Republic of China. As with the Soviet Union in the past, Communist China represents an existential and ideological threat to the United States and to the idea of freedom—one that requires a new American consensus regarding the policies and priorities required to defeat this threat. And for this purpose, it is necessary to bring to bear the collective skills, expertise and energies of a diverse group of experts on China, national security practitioners, human rights and religious freedom activists and others who have joined forces under the umbrella of the “Committee on Present Danger: China.”
