Fred Fleitz on How the Coronavirus Pandemic Will Change Trump’s China Policy

The continuing coronavirus pandemic and growing evidence that China’s handling of the virus amounted to criminal negligence has led to a major downturn in U.S.-China relations and threatens to wreck a recent trade deal with China and could even lead to a U.S.-China Cold War. In this Occasional Paper, Center President Fred Fleitz looks at how U.S. relations with China were fundamentally altered by President Trump and how they could deteriorate due to the Chinese government’s deceptions, lying and coverup of the coronavirus.

A Japanese version of this paper will appear in the summer 2020 edition of the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies (日本戦略研究フォーラム) Quarterly Report.
