A classic maneuver in the playbook of fraudsters is known as the “bait-and-switch”: Offer one thing to an unwitting customer and deliver a very different – and much less desirable – thing post-sale. It seems the Democratic Party has adopted this technique to sell the public a carefully crafted message that obscures, rather than illuminates, what is really being served up.

For example, during prime-time broadcasts over the past few days of the party’s virtual convention, a cavalcade of speakers – including a few with ties to Republican administrations – have promised unity, civil tranquility and a strong foreign policy.

Those selected to discuss the Democrats’ actual agenda during the convention’s daytime, non-broadcast sessions, however, make clear that it is about identity politics that deeply divide and other, radical and even dangerous policy prescriptions, both domestically and internationally.
