Less than 24 hours after the final 2020 Presidential Debate, Larry Kudlow, Director of the U.S. National Economic Council, joined Center for Security Policy founder and Executive Chairman Frank Gaffney on his new television show, “Securing America” to discuss key topics surrounding the final 2020 Presidential Debate.
After discussing substantive policy differences between the Trump administration and a would-be Biden administration on important topics like energy and healthcare, Mr. Kudlow addressed what is perhaps one of the most glaring differences between the two contenders for the presidency of the next four years: our economic policies toward China.
Mr. Gaffney recalled from the previous night’s debate that Vice President Biden said he “would make China play by the rules” but that Biden himself had previously helped engineer a memorandum of understanding that enabled the Chinese to access U.S. capital markets without complying with the rules that American companies must obey.
Asked for his input on this incredible irony, Mr. Kudlow explained that he believes Mr. Biden was “deliberately vague and ambiguous” and that he is “exceedingly naïve.” He explained the dangers of investing in China because of their lack of transparency and recalled the actions he took, alongside National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, to protect America’s current and veteran government workers’ retirement accounts – through the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) – from being invested in Chinese companies.
Explaining why he took these actions to protect the TSP, Director Kudlow said, “I want American investors to be protected. I regard this as a national security issue because China’s government has the power and authority to pull information of any kind from any company that is chartered in China, whether it is a government sponsored company or not and that means our security is compromised. So as we look at various issues we are going to be very tough on that, and that’s not going to change… and Mr. Biden is exceedingly naïve.”
